Epi-LASIK
Epi-LASIK (which stands for Epithelial - LASIK) is an entirely new way of laser vision correction that combines the benefits and safety of LASEK / PRK with the benefits of LASIK. The unique thing about this method is that the characteristic drawbacks of these two treatments, are also being avoided. This latest method of laser vision correction is also suitable for people who were not suited for the  LASIK method. For people with moderately dry eyes, thin corneas or high deviation, Epi-LASIK can be the solution. With Epi-LASIK, only the most superficial layer of the cornea, the epithelium will be detached and folded. After that, the eye will be lasered in order to obtain the appropriate correction.

The treatment.

  • With the Epi - K microkeratome, made of PMAA (hard plastic), a "slider" will be created in the epithelium. The epithelium will be very carefully lifted so there exist enough room to laser.
  • The surgeon will laser the eye threw the formed opening whereby the cornea will be formed again
  • A bandage lens is put on top. It will remain 5 to 7 days in the eye until it will be removed during the control at the clinic
  • The new layer of epithelium that has now been created, will again look healthy and smooth after a few days
  • Visibility can continue to improve a few weeks, sometimes even months after treatment

The advantages
The advantages of the Epi-LASIK method are that each client is in principle suitable for this treatment. The second advantage is that the whole eye will heal, so there is no weak spot in the eye's surface. The third advantage is that on average the eye heals faster than the LASEK method. In addition, this treatment is much less sensitive. The first 24 hours after treatment, the eyes feel dry and burning but after that the recovery will be rapid.

The disadvantages
The first 24 hours after treatment you can still suffer from post-operative pain, but with the painkiller you'll get it is reasonably easy to endure.
