There are many types of lasers for eye corrections, the so called excimer-lasers.

Why did Laser Company chose the VISX Star S4 IR laser?
VISX is the inventor of the excimer-laser and focuses himself manly on the optimization of the known equipment and the development of advanced and new techniques. The American manufacturer VISX is still the market leader of excimer-lasers, and is usually the first with new developments and patents on the market.

The variable Spot Scanning - technique
The VISX Star S4 IR laser is the only excimer-laser at which the laser beam can change in size to treat different kinds of abnormalities during treatment. This causes a smoother surface of the corneal tissue. This smoother surface is a better bases to treat and causes better results and improves and fastens the recovery procedure. The laser beam saves up to 40% of the corneal tissue than any other excimer-lasers. This results into saver surgery for persons with higher dioptre. 

The VISX Star S4 IR laser contains a in build iris registration
During the preliminary survey, there will be made a digital recording of the (for everybody) unique iris. This is important, because the treatment will be performed lying down, which causes the position of the eye to change. However, due to the iris registration, the laser will only treat the cornea where it is needed. Furthermore, the laser won't work when the iris isn't recognized. As the iris is as unique as a fingerprint, it isn't possible that a patient is treated with the wrong data.
