Eyes
The extensive examination of the eyes
The extensive measurements give us a detailed and comprehensive analysis of the eyes. Based on this examination, which at Laser Company consists of both subjective and objective measurements, we collect all the required information about the eyes. This information, together with your working situation, hobbies and personal circumstances tells us what the best treatment would be in your situation.
What can you expect?
This examination will take approximately two hours and among others, according to the following points:
- Measuring corneal thickness
- Cornea curvature measurement
- Topography of the eye
- Automated refraction measurement
- Pupil diameter measurement
- Both unadjusted and adjusted observation
- IOP Measurement
- Tear Film / tear production – test
- Retina exam
- Observation with dilated pupils
- Extensive information about the possibilities, treatment and everything else that is involved in laser vision correction *
Artificial lens implant
With a artificial lens implant, the necessary correction will be performed by putting an artificial lens in the eye. Depending on the type of the lens, it's put before or behind the iris by a small incision in the eye. In The Netherlands there are three types of artificial lenses that can be used: the Artisan lens, the Artiflex lens and the Intraoculaire contactlens (ICL). Laser-Company performs all three treatments.
Because Laser-Company is one of the few clinics in The Netherlands that wants to treat both eyes at once, this type of surgery needs to be performed in the hospital according to the strict regalements. Here, the patient will be put in full narcosis. Due to the close cooperation with the 'Spaarne Ziekenhuis' in Hoofddorp, you will be treated quickly and by our own doctors. The consult hours, the preliminary survey and the checkups will be handled in our own clinic.
Artisan Lens
The Artisan Lens, is a hard lens that's made out of Plexiglas and that will be put in the eye before the pupil opening. The artificial lens will then by attached to the iris, due to two small claws that clamps the iris tissue. The new artificial lens stands before the own lens without being able to touch each other. The artificial lens has a permanent effect and doesn't need to be replaced or removed after a certain time. A lens like this has been used for decades for cataract surgery.
Artiflex Lens
The Artiflex Lens is the folded version of the Artisan lens. The advantage of the Artiflex lens is the small cut that needs to be put in the eye, it's even smaller than is needed for the Artisan lens.
Intraoculaire Contactlens (ICL)
The ICL lens will be put behind the iris and before the own lens. The material of the lens is soft and can therefore go (folded up) trough a 3.2 mm wide opening in the cornea.
Refractive Lens Exchange
With a refractive lens exchange, your own lens will be removed and replaced by a artificial lens. This type of surgery is in fact identical to cataract surgery and is used for all people above their forty's whether they are heavily farsighted of shortsighted.
For this operation, three different types of lenses can be used. Most of the time the power of the lens is measured so, that you can watch the distance as sharp as possible without the need of glasses. The capability of the own lens to accommodate gets lost during the operation. Therefore you will be dependent on a pair of reading glasses.
Sometimes with this operation, it's possible to use multifocal lenses. When a multifocal artificial lens is used as replacement for the own lens, the necessity to use glasses for both the farsightedness as the shortsightedness are strongly reduced.
Contact
Soft lenses shouldn’t be worn for at least 2 weeks prior to this extensive examination and hard lenses for at least 4 weeks. Contact lenses slightly reform the top of the cornea. It is important that the cornea's gets into its natural shape again before measuring
* The doctor always has the final say in the possibilities for treatment.
